Landscaping and Lawn Care in Woodstock, GA

Towne Lake, Bells Ferry, Highway 92 and downtown off Main Street. Cherokee County subdivisions that are finally old enough to need the landscape redone.

Cherokee County's Busiest Corner

Woodstock sits in south Cherokee County, 30188 and 30189, off I-575 at exits 7 and 8. Downtown around Main Street and the Elm Street Green has turned into the busiest few blocks in the county. Towne Lake spreads west off Highway 92, Bells Ferry and Trickum run back toward Cobb, and Olde Rope Mill Park and the Little River sit on the north edge.

It is a twenty-minute run for our crews from Acworth, and it has become one of the areas we get asked about most, mostly because of what happened to the housing stock all at once.

Twenty-Year-Old Subdivisions Age All At Once

Towne Lake Hills, Eagle Watch, Deer Run, Bradshaw Farm and the neighborhoods around them went in through the 1990s and 2000s. Every one of them got the same builder package on the same schedule, which means everything the builder installed hit the end of its life on the same schedule too.

The list is almost identical from house to house. The landscape timber wall is soft and leaning. The builder Bermuda is thin in back because the trees grew in. The beds have three inches of old mulch and no edge left. The irrigation runs, but two heads water the driveway and one zone has been off for a year. That list is most of what we get called for in Woodstock, and it is a one-visit walk-through to price all of it.

Replacing a Failing Timber Wall

Landscape timbers rot from the back, where you cannot see it, and a wall that has leaned once will lean again, because the reason was never the timber. It was the water sitting behind it with nowhere to go.

So we do it properly. Pull the timbers, cut back to solid ground, compact a real base, set segmental block, pack washed stone with a perforated drain pipe behind the wall and run it out the low end, then backfill in lifts instead of one dump and a stomp. Cap it, re-cut the bed line above it, and it reads like part of the yard instead of a repair.

HOA Rules and Tight Access

Almost every Woodstock neighborhood has an HOA with architectural review over fences, walls, sheds and anything that changes the front elevation. That is not a problem, it is just a step that goes first. We hand you the layout and the material list to submit and schedule the build after it clears.

Access is the other Woodstock constant. These are mid-size lots with houses set close together, so how a pallet of block, a load of base stone and the spoil pile get to the back yard is a real line in the estimate. We settle that on the walk-through, not on the morning the crew shows up.

Woodstock Questions We Get

My landscape timber wall is leaning. Repair or replace?

Almost always replace. Timbers rot from the back and once a wall has moved it will move again, because the reason is the water behind it. We pull the timbers, compact a base, set segmental block with washed stone and a drain pipe behind it, then backfill in lifts and cap it. The bed line at the top gets re-cut so it does not look like a patch.

Our HOA has to approve the patio. Does that slow you down?

No, it just goes first. Most Woodstock neighborhoods have architectural review for walls, fences and anything that changes the elevation. We give you the layout and the materials to submit, and we schedule the build after it clears.

The back yard gate is narrow. Can you still build back there?

Usually. We check access before we quote, so we know whether it is a mini skid steer, a track buggy or wheelbarrows. That is a price difference and you should hear it in the estimate instead of on day three.
