Grading & Land Development in North Georgia

Lot clearing, excavation, and rough and finish grading for new builds, additions, driveways and yards. We set the ground so it drains, holds up, and is ready for whatever gets built on it.

What the work covers

  • Lot clearing: brush, small trees and debris cleared and hauled off
  • Excavation and dirt work for additions, pads and footings
  • Rough grading to set the shape and slope of the site
  • Finish grading, ready for sod, seed, pavers or a driveway
  • Driveway and parking area prep
  • Regrading yards that hold water or slope toward the house
  • Boulder and stone placement

Grade decides where the water goes

Almost every drainage problem we get called to starts as a grading problem. Ground that slopes toward the foundation, a yard with a low spot in the middle, a driveway cut that sends runoff into the garage. The fix is setting the grade so water moves away from the house and off the property the way it should. Where the grade alone cannot do it, we add French drains and catch basins.

Red clay does not forgive shortcuts

Georgia red clay packs hard when it is dry and turns to grease when it is wet. Fill has to go down in layers and be compacted at the right moisture, or it settles later under the driveway or the patio. We work the schedule around the weather instead of pushing mud around to stay on a calendar.

From bare dirt to a finished yard

Because we also do sod and irrigation, retaining walls and landscape design, the grading gets done with the finished yard in mind. The same company that cuts the grade lays the sod on it.

How We Do It

From Raw Ground to Ready

  1. We walk the site

Where the water comes from, where it needs to go, and what is getting built. The estimate is free.

  2. You get the scope in writing

What gets cleared, where the dirt comes and goes, and the finished grade, with the price, before a machine shows up.

  3. We clear, cut and grade

Rough grade first, then finish grade, and the site is left clean and ready for the next step.

Questions

Grading & Land Development FAQs

What is the difference between rough and finish grading?

Rough grading moves the bulk of the dirt and sets the general shape and slope of the site. Finish grading is the last pass. It smooths the surface, sets the exact pitch away from the house and gets the ground ready for sod, seed, pavers or a driveway.

Do I need grading or drainage work?

Often both, but grading comes first. If the ground slopes toward the house, no drain will keep up with it. We fix the slope, then add drains where water still collects.

Can you clear a wooded lot?

Yes. Brush, small trees and debris get cleared and hauled off, and the lot is graded for what comes next. Large trees close to a house may need a tree service first, and we will tell you if that is the case.
